Your ‘Computer Posture’ & Your Health

Slouch at computer

If this could be a picture of you then this article is written just with you in mind.

Suffering from neck pain or tight shoulders or even headaches? If so, then we need you to understand what is happening to your health. Please don’t ignore this information as things left uncorrected will certainly become worse. Computer posture wrecks many lives – don’t let it happen to you!

It is very important for your future health that you understand the relationship between health and posture. It is just as important as nutrition and exercise and we have so much empirical evidence that it cannot be ignored. Vibrant health and poor posture can NEVER live in the same body for long. Basically, laws of nature have to be obeyed.
If we maintain good posture, then apart from looking way better, we are far more likely to feel at ease with our body. We can be flexible and will move well; we will be enjoying both a healthy nervous system and immune system, and generally we will be aging kindly.

However, as our shape worsens and we adopt a forward head or ‘computer’ posture, the weight of the head increases massively as the body becomes more inefficient and enormous strain is imparted on the lower neck and the delicate nerve tissues protected within. Joints stiffen, tension increases and the journey towards loss of health as the nervous system is strained has begun. Pain and stiffness is of course the body’s way of telling us that things are going wrong.

This is not new information. We knew of its importance back in the 1950s, but with the increasing use of computers, especially here in Singapore, and the increasing sedentary lifestyles we are living, this whole problem is now of epidemic proportions.

“Deviations in the body’s center of gravity caused poor posture, which resulted in intestinal problems, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, osteoporosis, hip and foot deformities, poor health, decreased quality of life, and a shortened life span.”

(Journal of the American Medical Association)
Having seen a few thousand clients with all manners of postures and ailments, I am now committed to teaching what I know. Since opening Total Health Chiropractic’s first clinic in Singapore, we have already seen several thousand people with this problem and this has confirmed my belief that we are in the right city at the right time to allow us to make an enormous difference. You can ignore the facts but it doesn’t change the facts.

Nobel Prize winner, Roger Sperry, taught us that:
“The more mechanically distorted a person’s body is, the less energy is available for thinking, metabolism and healing.”
Always remember that we live our lives through our nervous systems and it must be protected and nurtured. Most of us have the genes to live a 100 year lifestyle but for many of us it is not the number of years but how we live them. We want to spend our time here in vibrant health, enjoying our families and contributing, without becoming a burden. How do Vanessa and I bring up our children? Take a look
