Are you developing Arthritis?

Arthritis is a condition affecting the joints of the body and more specifically it refers to inflammation of the joints.

There are over one hundred forms of arthritis, but the most common type is osteoarthritis, which is experienced in the weight-bearing bones of the back, neck and spine.

Understanding Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis in the back, neck and spine is often caused by mechanical stress. It is important to understand that the spine is a load-bearing structure and any misalignments will cause an inefficient distribution of weight and excessive ‘wear and tear’ as the bones of the spine are forced to remodel in order to adapt to the abnormal loading. These spinal changes, together with the stiffening that accompanies them, results in bone spurs, inflammation, thinning discs and eventually nerve entrapment. If the arthritis continues unabated, then the spinal canal can become narrow, a serious condition known as spinal stenosis.

Symptoms caused by spinal arthritis may include:

  • Pain in the back, neck, shoulders, arms and legs
  • Pain that is exacerbated by movement, thus restricting mobility
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Weakness
  • Possible bowel or bladder dysfunction

The benefits of Chiropractic Care for Arthritis

Because osteoarthritis is exacerbated by incorrect alignment of the spine (poor posture especially) then, if we improve the movement and alignment of the spine, we can reliably expect positive changes, an easing of the pain and reduction of inflammation.

At Total Health Chiropractic we practice various chiropractic techniques (including traditional) but much of our focus is based on the most researched and science-based treatment known as Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP).

CBP works to correct misalignments of the spine as a whole whilst improving function and this practice very often lessens or halts the rate of degeneration.

If you are suffering from arthritis then it is extremely likely that this is being caused and continually exacerbated by misalignments. Medication may briefly help relieve the symptoms, but unless you address the cause this potentially devastating condition must surely worsen.

Don’t hesitate; call us today at Total Health Chiropractic and schedule a thorough examination. If you have any further questions do not hesitate to call or alternatively you may request a free consult with the doctor.

Success Stories

I was horrified when I was shown the arthritis in my neck. No wonder I had so much pain and stiffness. My GP had previously given me anti-inflammatories which eased the pain for a while, but after 6 months or so it became even worse and I became scared at taking all those drugs.
A friend told me to try Dr Tim and I have to say……it was the best thing I have done. After a few short weeks my pain is now almost completely gone and I have near perfect movement again. Another thing that I didn’t realize was related, is that my headaches have completely vanished. When it was all explained to me it made complete sense and I now understand the importance of being in alignment. It’s obvious really…can’t believe I never thought of it before.
